Melbourne Leather Unveils New Logo Honouring Community, History, and Pride

Melbourne, Australia – Melbourne Leather is proud to unveil its newly designed logo — a bold, meaningful emblem created by Broc Fontenot, a 28-year-old (at the time) American-born, Melbourne-based gay man and graphic designer. This logo reflects the heart, history, and future of the leather community both locally and globally.

At the centre of the design is a heart shape, a deliberate choice based on the cofounders’ vision to place love and connection at the forefront of Melbourne Leather’s identity. The heart — red on the Leather Pride flag — symbolises the emotional core of the leather community, while looking forward with a message of connectivity, community, and love.

The logo’s colour palette is drawn directly from the Leather Pride flag:

·         Black for leather

·         Blue for denim

·         White for purity

The design pays tribute to Tony DeBlase, the creator of the Leather Pride flag. DeBlase famously said the flag’s meaning is personal — “it can mean what it means to you.” Some interpret the white stripe as a tie, others as a road — a reminder that leather culture is diverse, individual, and ever-evolving.

This new emblem also honours Melbourne’s legacy within the global leather movement. In 1991Melbourne Leather Men became the first club in the world to incorporate the Leather Pride flag into its own logo — a bold act of visibility and pride that continues to inspire today.

“We’re deeply grateful to Broc Fontenot for his time, effort, and creative vision,” said a Melbourne Leather spokesperson. “His work captures the heart of who we are. It’s more than a logo — it’s a symbol, a badge, and a legacy.”

The new logo has been rolled out across all Melbourne Leather materials, merchandise, and community events.
